About Me

Hello!! I’m Abbie, and I’m so glad you stumbled onto my blog. I’m a 17 year-old senior, and I have 5 siblings. My siblings and I have been homeschooled our entire lives, and we live on a hill right outside of historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I love being a Northeastern girl, but I especially love living around Gettysburg; it’s the perfect place for a history buff who’s obsessed with the Civil War to live.

I started this blog to share my thoughts and knowledge of the war, but also to share my thoughts on how history affects each one of us. Here lately, I’ve been more interested in the personal side of the war than the battles or generals. Wars aren’t pretty or perfectly placed. There are no manuals or textbooks that can describe it. The soldier has no idea what he’s in for, and after the war he walks away with only one concept learned: survival. Wars are messy, and affect everyone. It’s so imperative for our generation to understand what the Civil War really meant for the country in the 1860’s, but also for us. That’s the purpose of this blog; I’m seeking to personally connect people to the Civil War.

When I’m not talking someone’s ear off about the Civil War, you can find me playing bluegrass (or Civil War-era music!!) on my violin, baking, doing puzzles and camping with my family. I also enjoy old-time TV shows, blueberry muffin ice cream and historical novels, particularly centered around, (you guessed it!) the Civil War.
